He’s definitely still got the moves!
Age doesn’t assess your abilities. It’s the vitality inside you that determines your quality of life and what you’re able to do with it.
At 96, Dick Van Dyke has the energy to bring the joy and share a happy song and dance with his wife Arlene Silver who is half his age at 50.
Van Dyke, famous for his roles in “Mary Poppins” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” recently busted a few moves and sang a duet with his wife in a new video for Silver’s band Arlene & the Vantastix featuring Tony Guerrero.
The video begins with Silver looking into a mirror and singing the Doris Day hit that goes:
“I should worry, not for nothin’
Everybody loves me, yes they do
And I love everybody
Since I fell in love with you.”
Day first performed “Everybody Loves a Lover,” with Frank DeWol & His Orchestra written by Robert Allen and Richard Adler, in 1958.
There have been lots of remakes over the years.
The video for Arlene & the Vantastix’s is bright and colorful with bold colors with fruit and flowered pattern on the walls and furniture.
We follow Silver as she walks over to her seated husband. Van Dyke sings a bit before the two slide across the floor and engage in some synchronistic smooth footwork along the way.
The video ends with a sweet smooth between the two. Van Dyke and Silver married in 2012 after having known each other for about six years.
They celebrated their 10 wedding anniversary this year on Feb. 29.
“I remember seeing Dick at the catering table with his bow tie and his big smile,” Silver told Parade. “Right when I sat down, he was sitting next to me. He said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ The first thing I asked him was, ‘Weren’t you in ‘Mary Poppins’?’”
Van Dyke divorced his first wife, Margie Willet, in 1984 after 36 years of marriage.
He had a relationship with Michelle Triola for 30 years before her passing in 2009. This is Silver’s first marriage.
“She’s very mature for her age and I’m very immature for my age so it’s just about right,” said Van Dyke.
Silver said that she and her husband’s relationship started with a friendship.
She then fell in love with his childish charm.
“He is a lot of fun. He’s not immature in a bad way. He’s immature in a good way with the wonder of a child,” she said.
“He’s just fun, he’s open-minded. He’s not stuck in his ways at all. We’re both like children. We feel like we’re both having a second childhood.”
More than 888,000 people have viewed their duet of “Everybody Loves a Lover” on Silver’s YouTube channel.
“Kudos to this beautiful, loving couple with their beautiful voices, step work & vibe. What a great stylish video!” wrote one commenter.
“Spectacularly uplifting song and dance number. Thank you Mr & Mrs. Van Dyke for putting a smile in my heart this cold winter Michigan morning,” said another.
