The small child was abandoned in the Chattisgarh province of India, but after being discovered by a dog, its puppies helped keep the newborn, now named Akanksha, warm until she was rescued.

The helpless newborn was left to fend for herself, but a local stray dog intervened. The newborn baby was “saved” by a litter of adorable puppies who snuggled close to keep her warm in a cold field overnight.

The child had been heartbreakingly abandoned during the night, without any clothing and with her umbilical cord still attached. According to reports, the baby was found by a stray dog, which cuddled up to her with its puppies throughout the night in the Chattisgarh province of India.

“It is possible that the warmth from the puppies and their mother is what kept this newborn alive,” said a local resident. “Usually, the temperature drops at night, and it’s already December. I must say, it’s purely her luck.”

Now named Akanksha, the dogs took care of her until locals heard her crying. The police are now searching for her parents after they abandoned the child. Found nestled among a litter of puppies, the newborn was unharmed and discovered after residents heard her crying.

They informed the panchayat, a local government body, which then contacted the police. The baby has also been referred to the Child Line Project after receiving a medical examination at a local hospital.

One local, Premnath, described it as a “miracle” that the baby survived the night since stray dogs can be vicious. They stated, “They are not parents; they are criminals. It is truly a miracle to find a newborn baby alive when stray dogs are lurking around at night.”

The puppies of the stray dog huddled together to keep the baby warm on the cold night. The girl child has been named Akanksha. An investigation is currently underway, and the police are searching for her parents.

Senior IPS officer of Chhattisgarh Police, Special DG RK Vij expressed his shock over the incident. In response to the incident, a local representative named Munnalal Patel revealed that they discovered the newborn while carrying out their daily chores.

They stated, “At 11 in the morning, we noticed a newborn baby girl who was crying and lying alongside puppies in our village. We panicked and immediately informed the health department, and the newborn was taken to the hospital for further examination.”
