The “Top Songs of 1969” come back from the past like a boomerang

The year of 1969 was a great one for music lovers in America. The top 30 songs of the year were filled with great hits that helped end the decade on a high note. The number 30 song of the year was ‘Hurt So Bad’ by ‘The Letterman.’ It was originally recorded by Little Anthony & The Imperials. Linda Ronstadt also had a Top 10 hit with it in 1980. The song made it to number 12 in 1969.

Number 29 was ‘Going in Circles’ by ‘The Friends of Distinction.’ Number 28 was ‘Baby, I Love You’ by ‘Andy Kim.’ Number 27 was ‘Spinning Wheel’ by ‘Blood, Sweat, and Tears. Number 26 was ‘In The Year 2525’ by ‘Zager and Evans.’ And number 25 was ‘Get Back’ by ‘The Beatles with Billy Preston.’

Jumping to number 20 was the song ‘What Does It Take (To Win Your Love)’ by ‘Jr. Walker & The All Stars.’ It was a hit on both the R&B and pop singles charts. The song made it to the top 5 and number 1 on R&B charts.

Number 19 was ‘Proud Mary’ by ‘Creedence Clearwater Revival’ followed by Elvis at number 18 with ‘Suspicious Minds.’ Marvin Gaye’s song ‘Too Busy Thinking About My Baby’ was a hit at number 14.

The number 10 song from the year 1969 was ‘Crimson and Clover’ by ‘Tommy James and the Shondells.’ The song spent 16 weeks on the U.S. charts, reaching number 1 in the U.S. and four other countries.

Number 5 was ‘Everyday People’ by ‘Sly & the Family Stone,’ and it is remembered as one of the most popular songs of the 1960s. Number 4 was ‘Honky Tonk Women’ by ‘The Rolling Stones.’ Number 3 was ‘I Can’t Get Next to You’ by ‘The Temptations.’ The single was the second of the Temptations’ four No. 1 hits on the United States pop charts and was also one of the group’s best-selling singles.

Number 2 was ‘Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In’ by ‘The 5th Dimension,’ which was a medley of two songs written for the 1967 musical ‘Hair.’ And the number 1 song of the year in 1969 was ‘Sugar, Sugar’ by ‘The Archies,’ who wasn’t even a real band. The cartoon band had the best song of the year in 1969!
